A tradition of outstanding management

Fleet Landing officially began in 1985 when the Naval Continuing Care Retirement Foundation was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization for the purpose of planning a community for retired military officers and their families. Construction began in 1987. By 1990, Fleet Landing was ready to receive its founding residents. Since then, the community has extended its welcome to civilian families, enabling people from all walks of life to enjoy this outstanding continuing care retirement community

An exceptionally dedicated management team works in partnership with Fleet Landing's Board of Directors to ensure this senior living community continues to thrive for generations to come.

 

Joshua Ashby, Chief Executive Officer

Joshua AshbyJoshua Ashby was named Fleet Landing’s chief executive officer in 2010. As chief executive officer, he is responsible for fulfilling the mission of Fleet Landing through the coordinated efforts of our staff and board.

Ashby joined Fleet Landing’s management team in 2005 as Director of Health Care Services, responsible for the total operations of an 80-bed skilled nursing center, Leeward Manor, a 74-unit assisted living community, a home health agency and a physician’s clinic. In 2009, Ashby was promoted to chief operating officer, responsible for managing the community’s day-to-day operations.

He is licensed by the state of Florida as a nursing home administrator and is an approved preceptor. Ashby earned a bachelor’s degree in health sciences and a master of business administration degree from the University of North Florida.

Josh is currently involved with LeadingAge Florida and served as a director of the Florida Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. He also serves on the Board of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce Beaches Division, is a member of the Rotary Club Jacksonville and the World Affairs Council Jacksonville. Josh is also a member of the University of North Florida Brooks College of Health Dean’s Advisory Council.

Ashby is passionate about enriching the lives of our Residents through high quality programs and services that support successful aging with integrity, compassion and excellence.

 

Roger Palmer, Chief Financial Officer

Roger Palmer

Palmer joined the Fleet Landing Management team in 2003.With more than 45 years as a leader in business finance, Roger is well qualified to serve as Fleet Landing's Chief Financial Officer. Roger advises both our board of directors as well as our Residents of the financial health and well being of the community and oversees all investments made on behalf of our non-profit organization.

He has served as vice president of finance for several companies and as president of Jacksonville Shipyards and of Super Steel Products in Milwaukee. Roger earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin.

He has lived in the North Florida area for more than 13 years.

 

Patricia Mack, Senior Director of Independent Living Services

Patricia Mack

Patricia Mack joined Fleet Landing in 2007 as Director, Sales and Marketing and assumed increased responsibilities as the senior director of independent living services in 2010.

As Senior Director, Mack offers a unique understanding of aging in place, independent living and supportive care for older adults.

Mack has more than 25 years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, operations and sales management. Prior to joining Fleet Landing, Mack served as vice president of marketing and sales at Frederick Mennonite Community, a Pennsylvania-based continuing care retirement community. She has also served as vice president of marketing for Cherrydale Farms, a national fundraising company based in Pennsylvania.

Mack founded Fundraising Solutions, which provides fundraising programs and products for Florida schools, youth sports, band and choir markets.

Mack served as director of sales for Siemens USA, headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla., from 1982 to 1993.

Prior to working in a senior living community, Mack took a sabbatical from corporate America to spend time with her aging mother. Her personal experiences sparked her interest in senior living communities and served as a driving force to serve older adults.

 

Elizabeth Sholar, Senior Director of Health Care Services

As Senior Director of Health Care Services, Sholar oversees the operation of Leeward Manor, Fleet Landing’s 76-bed assisted living community, its 80-bed skilled nursing center, a home health agency and a physician’s clinic, ensuring that Fleet Landing provides the highest quality health care while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Sholar joined Fleet Landing’s management team in 2000 and served as the administrator of its assisted living facility for eight years. She has a background in social services and extensive experience working with resident care and geriatric populations.

Prior to joining Fleet Landing, Sholar worked as a social worker in the senior community setting for four years. She also worked for a home health company, in community case management and for the Florida Division of Blind Services.

She is a graduate of the University of North Florida, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

 

Tamara Schwarz, Senior Director of Human Resources

Tamara Taugher

Schwarz joined Fleet Landing in 2010 as Senior Director of Human Resources. Her duties include managing all human resources activities that support Fleet Landing staff members as well as staff recruitment, orientation, training and development, employee relations, performance management, organizational development, benefits administration and human resources statistical reporting.

She brings prior human resources experience from the Kessler Collection where she supported multiple hotels including the opening of a new hotel in the collection. Earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Michigan State University, she is an active member of the Society of Human Resources Management and is a Certified Hospitality Trainer (CHT).

Schwarz is inspired by Fleet Landing’s compassionate staff members and is dedicated to supporting the warm hospitality and unprecedented health care services that they provide to Fleet Landing residents. She is committed to expanding Fleet Landing’s reputation as an extraordinary community and premier employer.
